I've seen a snake! Should I kill it?

Everybody would think snakes are evil animals that tempted Adan and Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. They've been killed everytime they are seen by people. Here at Philippines, the most common snake killed is the reticulated python or is known as "Sawa" in our country. They are large non-venomous snake that is commonly seen in zoo.  They have a bad record at eating human being but its still not clear if the person that got eaten was already dead or he/she was killed by the snake, that question still remains a mystery.

According to the information found at wikipedia, snakes are elongate, legless, carnivorous reptiles of the suborder Serpentes that can be distinguished from legless lizards by their lack of eyelids and external ears. Like all squamates, snakes are ectothermic, amniote vertebrates covered in overlapping scales. Many species of snakes have skulls with many more joints than their lizard ancestors, enabling them to swallow prey much larger than their heads with their highly mobile jaws. To accommodate their narrow bodies, snakes' paired organs (such as kidneys) appear one in front of the other instead of side by side, and most have only one functional lung. Some species retain a pelvic girdle with a pair of vestigial claws on either side of the cloaca.

When you saw a snake, do not kill it. If you saw it outside your house and away from households leave the snake alone because its not even bothering you, right? If you found the snake inside your house, you can try lure it outside or you can to catch it and throw it outside your house. Please be cautious in catching a snake, some snakes maybe non-venomous and some are venomous so its better to be familiar on the venomous and non-venomous snakes that are endemic to your place.

In Philippines, the only snake I knew to be venomous is the Philippine Cobra, they are known to be the World's dangerous snake. There venom is neurotoxin which affect cardiac and respiratory functions that can cause neurotoxicity, etc which can leads to death.

In snake keeping hobby, the most popular small colorful snake is the pueban milksnake, how ever, this specie can be mistaken as the coral snake which is known to be venomous. So when you want to get in the snake keeping hobby, I guess you need to research before you get the snake you want especially then pueban milk snake.

Why I should not kill snakes? Because they have life too and they are creatures that also helps at the balance of nature. I don't exactly understand what are their roles but I guess every animal/creature have its own purpose and they have the right to live. :)
